Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Bergen Philharmonic | teaching from 8 April to 14 May 2024

Our course launch on Monday 8 April 2024 at 17:00 UK time is open to all - enjoy it here.

We are so excited and honoured to have been invited to collaborate with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir again, this time performing Johannes Brahms’ Requiem in German (Ein Deutsches Requiem). We are building on everything we learned from our previous Delius A Mass Of Life collaboration to create the best possible resources for this exciting project.

The Bergen performance of the Requiem will take place in the Grieghallen live on 21-22 March 2024, conducted by Edward Gardner and featuring solos by Soprano Johanna Wallroth and Baritone Brian Mulligan. You can buy tickets to attend live here: and/or watch online on 22 March here.

The amazing team at the Grieghallen will capture high fidelity recordings of these concerts using state of the art technology, including from headset mics on key members of the choir and video of Edward Gardner conducting. Choir of the Earth will then use these concert recordings as the basis of our learning, recording and performance, including 'voice-louder' parts and conducting videos to help you record at home, all created from the actual choir's performance.

Our marvellous Musical Director, Ben England BEM, will teach the Requiem, starting with our course launch on Monday 8 April 2024 at 17:00 UK time. The course launch is open to everyone and free to attend, as a taster of what we offer and how it all works. To take part in the full course we would love to welcome you as the latest member of our choral family.

When we have learned the music, we will record our own voices at home (very easy, with no special equipment required!) and then our amazing audio engineers will mix our recordings with the original recordings from Bergen, creating an enhanced, unique and truly international performance that transcends space and time.

Join us to be a part of this exciting project!
