Choir of the Earth started out in March 2020 just as the COVID pandemic was affecting us all. It’s original name was the SELF-ISOLATION CHOIR and it was formed by Mark Strachan and Ben England to sing MESSIAH online.

They had the idea on a Wednesday and were up and running the following Monday, expecting approx 35 people from the West of England to join in the fun. When they went live, they had over 3,500 singers with them online from all over the world.

Now over 50 courses later with music from Mahler 8 to Bohemian Rhapsody, and a British Empire Medal each for their services to Choral Music, Mark and Ben have pioneered the case for “digital” singing.

In this book, Mark Strachan tells the story of how the idea of an online choir, with no experience of running one, came to be. He lists each piece of music learned over the four years and includes the name of each and every member of this wonderful choir.

With many photographs and statistics of the journey, Mark’s entertaining style brings this amazing story made by thousands of singers from all over the world to life.

The Choir’s two Presidents, Marina Mahler and Roger Durston each write a foreword and the preface to the book is written by Ben England BEM, whose musicality, generosity and sheer weight of personality is an integral part of this choir.
